QuickType Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 29, 2026

Overview

QuickType is a Chrome extension for reusable text snippets, shortcut expansion, and user-requested form filling. It does not operate an account system, analytics service, advertising service, or developer backend.

Data handled

QuickType may handle user-created snippets, categories, preferences, and optional profile details such as name, email address, phone number, company, and address. It also examines editable field labels and attributes as needed to expand shortcuts or match fields for autofill.

Local storage and encryption

Extension data is stored in the user's local Chrome profile. Optional profile values are encrypted with AES-GCM using a key derived from the user's PIN or password with PBKDF2-SHA256. The PIN or password is not stored. Website password fields are not filled.

Data sharing

QuickType does not send user data to the developer or sell, rent, share, or transfer user data to third parties. It does not collect browsing history or use data for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness, or lending.

User control

Users choose when to create, edit, copy, insert, export, import, or delete data. Form filling occurs only after a user action and never submits the form automatically. Uninstalling the extension removes its local data according to Chrome's extension-storage behavior.

Permissions

QuickType uses permissions only to store local data, copy chosen snippets, provide a context-menu action, detect shortcuts in editable fields, and perform user-requested form filling on HTTP and HTTPS pages.

Changes

This policy may be updated when QuickType's features or legal requirements change. The latest effective date will appear at the top of this page.
